The Irish quickly took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after an RBI single from Linda Kohan and a two-run blast from Christine Lux off of starting pitcher Ashley Forsyth (Freehold, N.J.).
Notre Dame blew the game open in the third with a grand slam from Erin Marrone to extend the lead to 7-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Irish enforced the eight-run rule after an RBI single from Kohan and a sacrifice fly by Heather Johnson.
Forsyth took the loss and falls to 5-7 on the year. She pitched just one-third of an inning and allowed three earned runs.
In game two, Beth Northway led the contest off with a double and scored on an unconventional play on the next at-bad. Kohan singled to right field, and Reed fired a strike to the plate. Catcher Nicole Loewenstein (Joppa, Md.) did not get a tag on the runner, and Northway never touched home. After both players looked for a signal from the home-plate umpire, Northway dove and reached the plate before the tag was made.
A three-run homer from Dani Miller extended the lead to 4-0, and Alexia Clay singled to score another run.
The Irish continued to add runs in the third and fourth, scoring four runs in each inning to put the game away.
