
Softball Swept at Iona

In the second inning of game one, Kealan Waldron (

Junior pitcher Ashley Forsyth (Freehold, N.J.) got into trouble by walking the first two batters she faced in the bottom of the third, then beaning a batter with one out to load the bases. Kayla O’Neil cleared the bases with a grand slam that sailed over the wall in right-center to put the Gaels on top, 4-3.
The Pirates tied the score after Schillizzi drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth inning. Sarah Jackson worked out of the inning by striking out Waldron and getting a force out at third to end the frame.
Pease gave Seton Hall the lead, 5-4, with one swing of the bat, jacking a solo shot to leftfield in the sixth inning.
Pease became just the eighth player in school history to have a multi-homer game and the first since Jenna Best went deep twice at
Forsyth drops to 5-8 on the year. She struck out six, and had allowed just one hit through the first six innings before giving up two in the seventh.
O’Neil gave the Gaels a 1-0 lead after hitting a long RBI single in the bottom of the first inning of game two.

Pease started a Pirate rally in the fourth with an opposite field blast. Freshman Nicole Loewenstein (Joppa, Md.) followed with a two-bagger off the wall in right field, and Christina Esposito (
Iona put a damper on Seton Hall’s comeback hopes in the bottom of the fourth after Harris took Kim Schweitzer (Syracuse, N.Y.) deep to bring in two runs, giving the Gaels a 7-4 edge.
The Pirates brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth inning after Esposito reached via fielder’s choice and Bontales drew a base on balls. Reed made it a two-run game with a ground out, but Deanne Algeo got Menichetti to strikeout to end the inning.
The umpires halted the game before Iona took the field in the bottom of the sixth due to darkness.
