LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Freshmen Kerrie Kolackovsky (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and Jane Ehret (Florida, N.Y.) each took home three first place scores to help the Seton Hall women's swimming & diving team defeat Rider, 168-130, Friday afternoon in Lawrenceville.
In their first collegiate swim meet, Kolackovsky earned first place scores in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke and the 500-yard freestyle, while Ehret finished with the top time in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly and the 400-yard individual medley. On the diving boards, junior Brittany Hervey (Bethpage, N.Y.) recorded two first place scores in the 1 and 3 meter events to round out the Pirates eight first place finishes.
The women started the afternoon when Brenna O'Keefe (Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Megan Rathbun (Long Valley, N.J.) finished third and fourth respectively in the 1,000-yard freestyle. It would continue when Kaley Swider (Galloway, N.J.) finished second in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke followed by Brittany Henning (Batavia, Ill.) who came in third in both races.
Junior Rose Virgilio (Bloomingburg, N.J.) ended her afternoon with second place times in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle, while Andrea Shuba (Pittsburgh, Pa.) recorded a second place score in the 200-yard backstroke. Shuba added a third place finish in the 400-yard individual medley and in the 100-yard backstroke with Kara Walbaum (Long Valley, N.J.) finishing behind her in the latter event.
Kate Dwyer (Freehold, N.J.) finished third in 500-yard freestyle and Kelly Marwell (Old Bridge, N.J.) finished third in the 100-yard butterfly.
Following Hervey in the 1-meter diving event was freshman Katie Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) with a second place score and junior Kaitlyn Karl (Erie, Pa.) with a third place score.
In addition to the team's victory, Shuba, Kolackovsky, Swider, Henning, Ehret, Virgilio, Hervey, Riley, Dwyer, Markwell, and Marilyn Purvis (Old Saybrook, Conn.) recorded BIG EAST Championship qualifying times.
The women's swimming & diving team returns to the pool for a Quad Meet on Saturday, October 30 when they travel to Baltimore to face Drexel, Loyola, and Lafayette.
