
Women's Swimming & Diving Program Defeat Iona 178-113

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Seton Hall women's swimming & diving team used top two finishes in eight of the 12 individual swimming events to defeat Iona, 178-113, Tuesday evening in New Rochelle. The win improved their program-best record to 5-0.
The women swam to top two finishes in the 50, 500, and 100-yard freestyle, 100 and 200-yard backstroke, 100 and 200-yard butterfly, and the 200-yard breaststroke.
Freshman Kerrie Kolackovsky (Franklin Square, N.Y.) continued her dominate season recording three first place times in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, and 500-yard freestyle. Junior Kaley Swider (Galloway, N.J.) finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke and took home third in the 100-yard breaststroke, while freshman Kate Dwyer (Freehold, N.J.) finished second in the 500-yard freestyle, while adding another second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Andrea Shuba (Pittsburgh, Pa.) recorded top times in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke with senior Kara Walbaum (Long Valley, N.J.) finishing in second place in each event. Junior Marilyn Purvis (Old Saybrook, Conn.) finished third in the 200-yard backstroke for valuable points.
Freshmen Jane Ehret (Florida, N.Y.) and Kelly Markwell (Old Bridge, N.J.) finished one and two, respectively, in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly, while sophomore Brenna O'Keefe (Hyde Park, N.Y.) finished third in the 200-yard butterfly.
Adding to her first place time in the 100-yard freestyle, junior Rose Virgilio (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with sophomore Alie Zelenky (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) finishing second.
Junior Megan Rathbun (Long Valley, N.J.) finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle followed by O'Keefe in second place.
On the diving boards, freshman Katie Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) recorded a top score in the 1-meter event followed by juniors Brittany Hervey (Bethpage, N.Y.) in second and Kaitlyn Karl (Erie, Pa.) in third.
The Pirates will make their home debut on Saturday when they welcome BIG EAST Conference rival Providence to South Orange. Meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
