SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's swimming & diving team improved their program best record to 6-0 when they defeated Providence, 173-112, Saturday afternoon at the Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium.
The women finished with the top three places in five of the races, the 100 and 200-yard backstroke, 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, and the 200-yard butterfly. They also recorded the top two finishes in the 50, 100, and 1,000-yard freestyle.
The 100 and 200-yard backstroke saw sophomore Andrea Shuba (Pittsburgh, Pa.), senior Kara Walbaum (Long Valley, N.J.), and junior Marilyn Purvis (Old Saybrook, Conn.) rank one through three.
Freshman Kerrie Kolackovsky (Franklin Square, N.Y.), junior Kaley Swider (Galloway, N.J.), and senior Brittany Henning (Batavia, Ill.) finished one through three, respectively, in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke.
Freshman Jane Ehret (Florida, N.Y.) recorded the first place time in the 200-yard butterfly followed by classmate Kelly Markwell (Old Bridge, N.J.) in second place and sophomore Brenna O'Keefe (Hyde Park, N.Y.) in third place.
In addition to her third place score, O'Keefe began her day with a first place time in the 1,000-yard freestyle with junior Megan Rathbun (Long Valley, N.J.) finishing second.
Junior Rose Virgilio (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) finished both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle in first place with sophomore Alie Zelenky (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) recording second place times in both.
Freshman Kate Dwyer (Freehold, N.J.) took home first place in the 200-yard freestyle, while on the diving boards junior Brittany Hervey (Bethpage, N.Y.) earned first place scores in each of the two 1-meter rounds. Freshman Katie Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) scored third in the second round of 1-meter diving.
The women's squad will return to action Friday afternoon when they host St. Peter's. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
