
Women's Swimming & Diving Defeats Montclair State, 152-76

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's swimming & diving team used nine first place scores to earn a, 152-76, victory over Montclair State Monday evening at the Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. With the win, the Pirates enter the winter break 8-0 overall.
Two of the nine first place scores were awarded to junior diver Brittany Hervey (Bethpage, N.Y.) including her score of 292.35 on the 1-meter board which broke the Seton Hall record of 292.05 originally held by Ashley Williams set in 2008-09. Her other first place score came in the 3-meter event.
Freshman Kerrie Kolackovsky (Franklin Square, N.Y.) also finished with two first place times in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle. Junior Kaley Swider (Galloway, N.J.) finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and senior Kara Walbaum (Long Valley, N.J.) finished third.
Walbaum added a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke just ahead of classmate Brittany Henning (Batavia, Ill.) in second and freshman Paige Calkins (Austin, Tex.) in third. Henning also finished second in the 200-yard individual medley behind sophomore Andrea Shuba (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Shuba added a second place time to her night in the 100-yard freestyle sandwiched between Kolackovsky and freshman Katie Dwyer (Freehold, N.J.).
Dwyer also came in third place in the 1,000-yard freestyle event behind freshman Jane Ehret (Florida, N.Y.) and sophomore Brenna O'Keefe (Hyde Park, N.Y.)
Rounding out the evening in the swimming events was junior Rose Virgilio (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) finishing first in the 200-yard freestyle and junior Marilyn Purvis (Old Saybrook, Conn.) finishing second. Freshman Kelly Markwell (Old Bridge, N.J.) also finished with a top time in the 100-yard butterfly.
Following Hervey's lead in the diving events, freshman Katie Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished second in the 1-meter and third in 3-meter. Junior Kaitlyn Karl (Erie, Pa.) finished third in the 1-meter and second in the 3-meter.
The Pirates will now begin their winter break and will return to action Tuesday, January 18 at Villanova.
