CHARLOTTE, N.C - The Seton Hall softball team lost to Marshall, 10-1, in six innings at the Green & White Tournament on Saturday evening. The Pirates (1-3) will play at 11:00 a.m. in the consolation game of the tournament against Boston University.
The Herd loaded the bases after an error and a pair of walks in the first inning. Senior Ashley Forsyth (Freehold, N.J.) hit the next batter to bring in the first run and then walked in another run to give Marshall a 2-0 lead.
In the second, the Herd tacked on three more runs highlighted by a solo home run by Caitlyn Jackson and chased Forsyth from the game.
An RBI single by Marcena Bertoldo extended the lead to 6-0 in the third inning.
Junior Jamie Gates (Emmaus, Pa.) put Seton Hall on the board in the fourth, drawing a walk and coming around to score on a wild pitch. However, a big fly from Jazmine Volle cancelled out the Pirate score in the bottom of the inning.
The Herd added three more runs in the sixth inning to enforce the eight-run rule and finish the game.
Forsyth took the loss (1-1), pitching just 1.2 innings and surrendering three earned runs.
