CHARLOTTE, N.C - The Seton Hall softball team lost to Marshall, 14-5, in five innings at the Green & White Tournament Consolation Game on Sunday. The Pirates fall to 1-4 on the season.
Sophomore Jeanette Ragucci (Glen Gardner, N.J.) led the game off with an infield second and wound up on third via stolen base and passed ball. Sophomore Kristen Kaelin (Parlin, N.J.) drove Ragucci in to give SHU the early, 1-0, lead.
Junior Katie Stilwell (Portage, Wis.) struggled with control early, allowing the tying run to score on a wild pitch.
The Terriers (2-3) scored one run in the second, four in the third, and then exploded for five more in the fourth to make it 10-1.
The Pirates put two runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth, capitalizing on an error and a ground out to pull within seven. However, Boston answered with four more runs in the fifth inning, putting the eight-run rule into effect.
Kaelin belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough to extend the game.
Stilwell took the loss after throwing just two innings and allowing three earned runs.
Seton Hall will travel to Woodstock, Ga. for the Buzz Classic, hosted by Georgia Tech. The Pirates will open the tournament against James Madison on Friday, March 5.
