
Softball Hosts Providence in Final BIG EAST Regular Season Weekend

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall softball team will play a three-game series against Providence at Ivy Hill Park on May 1-2. The Pirates (19-26, 8-11) will honor senior pitchers Ashley Forsyth and Danielle Zanzalari after their final home game of the season on Sunday.

SERIES TIDBITS
SHU rallied from four-runs down twice to defeat Providence, 10-9, in game one of a double-header. Kristen Kaelin's three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning sealed the come-from-behind victory. The Pirates also overcame two-run deficits on two occasions in the night-cap, but fell short, 7-5, after a walk-off home run by Christy Becker.
SETON HALL STATUS
SHU was swept at UConn on Wednesday, which included a heartbreaking walk-off, 6-4, loss in game two. The Pirates are now in eighth place in the conference standings, and wrap up BIG EAST play a week earlier than the rest of the league.
PROVIDENCE STATUS
Providence had a single-game against Rhode Island and earned a 7-4 victory. However, the Friars dropped 2-of-3 in a weekend series against Rutgers and sit in seventh place in the BIG EAST standings.
MILESTONE ACHIEVED
Senior Ashley Forsyth became just the fourth pitcher in school history to strike out 300 batters against Pitt on Apr. 25. She currently ranks fourth on the career strikeout list with 307.
HAMMER-TIME
Freshman Brittany Hammer was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Apr. 26 after batting .636 (7-for-11) and four RBI, which more than doubled her season total.
REED TIES SINGLE-GAME HIT RECORD
With a 4-for-4 performance in the series finale, junior Michelle Reed became the 10th Pirate player to tie the school's single-game record.
HILL SHINES AGAINST GAELS
Freshman pitcher Hannah Hill had her finest collegiate performance in game two against Iona, throwing a complete-game, one-hitter in a 4-1 victory. Hill did not allow a hit until the seventh inning and earned her first win of the year.
ONE FOR THE AGES
SHU and Villanova played an epic 12-inning affair in game two of their series on April 14. The Pirates rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the score in the bottom of the seventh, and came back again after falling behind in the 11th inning. However, VU's Jess O'Boyle's solo homer in the 12th ultimately gave the Wildcats the win.
PITCHING IN
Seton Hall's pitching staff has really turned the corner since the start of April. In the Pirates' last 22 games, SHU's pithcers have posted a 2.61 ERA with 112 strikeouts.
PERFECTION AND DOMINATION
Senior Ashley Forsyth became just the fourth player in SHU history to throw a perfect game on April 8 at St. Peter's. Forsyth also set a new school-record with 17 strikeouts and is just one of three Pirate pitchers to throw a no-hitter and perfect game in her career. Furthermore, she did not allow a hit ball out of the infield.
PIRATES PLUNDER AT ST. PETER'S
SHU stole a school-record 10 bases, including two steals of home in a 7-0 victory over St. Peter's on April 8. Junior Michelle Reed tied the individual single-game record with three swipes.
A FLAIR FOR THE DRAMATIC
Junior Brittany Schillizzi hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning to top Sacred Heart, 5-1, in game two of a doubleheader.
TULL-OF-A DAY
After missing the first 12 games of the season with an ankle injury, freshman Brooke Tull made her collegiate debut at Fordham. In just her third and fourth games of the season, she recorded a pair of two RBI games against Central Conn. State.
OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION
After ending a 15-inning scoreless streak, SHU put on a clinic in the first inning of game two against CCSU, sending 16 batters to the plate and scoring 10 runs en route to a 15-0 victory.
