SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall softball team stranded seven runners on base in a 2-0 loss to Providence. The Pirates (19-28, 8-13) were one-hit in game two, and fell 6-0.
Senior Ashley Forsyth (Freehold, N.J.) (11-11) scattered five hits in seven innings, struck out five, and allowed two unearned runs.
Forsyth retired the first two batters of the third inning easily, but Katelyn Revins hit a blooper behind first base that Kristen Kaelin (Parlin, N.J.) could not hang onto. Revins moved all the way to second on the miscue, and scored on a Michelle Huber double. Huber stole third base on ball four to the next batter, and touched home after a Christy Becker single, and that was all Providence needed.
The Pirates had runners on in five innings, and left multiple runners in scoring position in three of them.
Sophomore Laura Canulli (Naperville, Ill.) went 3-for-3 with a double to lead the offense.
In game two, the Friars put two early runs on the board in the first, another in the second, and never looked back.
Junior Brittany Schillizzi (Paramus, N.J.) was the only Pirate to get a hit, breaking up a perfect game in the fifth inning.
Senior Danielle Zanzalari (Carteret, N.J.) earned the decision (3-5), allowing three earned runs on six hits in five innings.
SHU will look to avoid the series sweep tomorrow against the Friars at noon. Senior day festivities will begin after the contest.
