
Softball Announces 2012 Schedule

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall softball team has announced its schedule for the 2012 season.
The Pirates will join BIG EAST rival St. John's, Army and hosts Longwood in the field of Longwood Tournament to start the season. As a part of the tournament, the team will play five games from Friday, February 17 through Sunday, February 19.
Seton Hall is scheduled to compete in three more tournaments before its home opener. At the UCF Tournament in Orlando Fla., the Pirates will take on Florida Gulf Coast, the host Golden Knights, Jacksonville, Villanova and Eastern Michigan in a three-day stretch from February 24-26.
The games against the Red Storm and the Wildcats will not count towards the BIG EAST standings.
SHU next travels to Las Vegas from March 2-4 for the UNLV Eller Media Tournament. The Pirates will face Florida Atlantic, Illinois and twice square off against New Mexico State and UNLV.
The following week, the Seton Hall softball team returns to Baltimore, Md. for the UMBC Dawg Pound Classic. The Pirates enter the tournament as two-time defending champions. This year's schedule includes four games in two days against Niagara, Coppin State, Siena and UMBC. Following an off day, the Pirates will remain in Baltimore to play a doubleheader against Towson before returning home.
Seton Hall's home schedule is highlighted by the SHU Classic. The Pirates will make their first home appearances of the season against Manhattan, Monmouth and Texas Tech on March 16-18. SHU will remain home through the end of March with scheduled contests against Saint Peter's, Connecticut, Rutgers and Siena. The Hall's home slate also includes games against Central Connecticut State, Louisville and will conclude with a three-game series against DePaul on April 28-29.
The 2012 season also includes 13 true road games against five opponents. The Pirates will play doubleheaders at Princeton on April 3 and travel to Notre Dame for a twinbill on April 25. Also in BIG EAST play, SHU will play the role of visitors for three games in two days on three separate occasions. Seton Hall visits defending BIG EAST Champions Syracuse, Providence and will close the regular season at Villanova.
The 2012 BIG EAST Softball Championship will be held in South Bend, Ind. on May 10-12.
