CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Seton Hall softball team fell to Charlotte, 8-0, in five innings in the semifinals of the Charlotte Green & White Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Pirates (4-4) will face James Madison in the consolation game tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
SHU had a chance to get on the board in the top of the first after an error and walk put runners on first and second with no outs. Senior Nalin Bennett (East Syracuse, N.Y.) bunted both runners into scoring position, but a fly out and a strikeout retired the side without a run coming across.
With two on in the bottom half of the frame, the 49ers (7-7) went ahead 3-0 after Katie Lang hit a ball just in front of Michelle Reed (Wrightstown, N.J.) in rightfield. The ball bounced over Reed's shoulder and went all the way to the wall and Lang came all the way around for an inside the park homerun.
Jalisa Rock made it 5-0 with a two-run single in the third, and Tenaya Tucker delivered the big blow in the fifth with a two-run double off the wall in centerfield.
Bennett ended up with the only Pirate hit of the game. Tucker went 2-for-2 on the day.
Sophomore Brooke Tull (Greenwood, Del.) suffered the loss (1-1). She tossed five innings, giving up seven earned runs on six hits. Katy Hackett (6-3) picked up her second win against the Hall and hasn't allowed a run in 12 innings of work.
