BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Seton Hall softball team fell to South Carolina, 9-2, on Saturday at the Miken Classic. The Pirates (5-7) wrap up play at the tournament tomorrow against Michigan State at 3:00 p.m. and FAU at 5:00 p.m.
SHU jumped ahead, 2-0, in the top of the first inning after a Brittany Hammer (Manheim, Pa.) two-run single with the bases loaded.
The Gamecocks took the lead in the top of the second after a wild pitch brought in the first run and RBI hits by Lauren Lackey and Evan Childs.
South Carolina added runs in the fourth and fifth innings, before breaking things open in the sixth. Laura Mendes drove in two runs with a single up the middle, and Molly Brossart hit a two-run homer to finish the scoring off.
Sophomore Hannah Hill (Fryeburg, Maine) took the loss and falls to 1-5 on the year. Kierstyn White picked up the win and is now 2-1 on the season.
