PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Seton Hall softball team lost to Rutgers, 4-1, on Sunday. The Pirates have dropped 11 straight and are 12-24 overall and 0-11 in BIG EAST play. SHU will host St. Peter's for a double-header on Tuesday at Ivy Hill Park beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Mikelyn Messina gave the Scarlet Knights a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a three-run homer. Ashley Bragg pushed the margin to 4-0 with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth.
SHU put a run on the board in the fifth inning after an error brought in Brittany Hammer (Manheim, Pa.) from third base. The Pirates later loaded the bases, but could not get any closer.
Freshman Jen Metzger (Pine Hill, N.J.) fell to 5-7 after tossing six innings allowing three earned runs on seven hits. Megan Williams earned her second win of the series and improved to 8-5 on the year.
