LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Seton Hall softball team fell to Louisville, 9-3, on Sunday to conclude a three-game series. The Pirates drop to 12-19 overall and 0-6 in BIG EAST play.
The Cardinals (26-10, 5-1) went on top in the third inning after RBI hits by Katie Keller and Chelsea Bemis. In the fourth, Keller busted the game open with a three-run homer and Louisville put five runs on the board to take a 7-0 lead.
SHU finally got on the board in the fifth inning after a pair of walks and an infield hit by Marissa Muoio (Cedar Grove, N.J.) off of relief pitcher Katie Petrino loaded the bases with no outs. Pinch-hitter Brooke Tull (Greenwood, Del.) then singled to bring in two runs. With Caralisa Connell back in the game, the Pirates made it 7-3 after a Michelle Reed (Wrightstown, N.J.) single scored Muoio.
The Pirates still had the bases loaded with just one out, but a force play at the plate and strikeout ended the threat.
After holding Louisville scoreless in the fifth, the Cardinals put two on the board in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Sophomore Hannah Hill (Fryeburg, Maine) took the decision for SHU and is 5-11 on the year. Connell ended up pitching seven innings, despite being pulled in the fifth for Petrino, who did not record an out. Connell struck out a career-high 10 batters.
Reed went 2-for-4 for SHU. Keller was 3-for-4 with five RBI.
The Pirates will host St. John's for a double-header at Ivy Hill Park on Wednesday, April 6. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
