DeStaso Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seton Hall softball freshman Danielle DeStaso (Congers, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on February 19. DeStaso hit a team-best .556 with two home runs, and five RBI in a 1-2 week for the Pirates at the Lancer Leadoff Tournament.
In her first collegiate game against St. John's, DeStaso started the game in leftfield but came in to pitch in the second inning and kept Seton Hall in the game, throwing five innings allowing just one earned run and six strikeouts. She also recorded her first career hit and RBI in the fifth inning to help the Pirates erase a late deficit and later win a thrilling 7-6 decision in nine innings.
DeStaso went 3-for-3 against UMBC and belted her first career homer, a solo shot, in the top of the seventh inning to tie the score, 1-1. Against Longwood, she jacked another longball.
Rutgers senior outfielder Brittney Lindley was as the selected BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week and Georgetown freshman Megan Hyson was named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week after the second week of action.
