DESTASO DELIGHTS IN OPENING WEEKEND
Freshman Danielle DeStaso made an immediate impact during her opening weekend, hitting .556 with two homers and five RBI at the Lancer Leadoff Tournament. She also made her pitching debut, striking out six batters in five innings of relief against St. John's. For her efforts, she was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Feb. 20.
ACCESS DENIED
Senior catcher Nicole Loewenstein not only had a strong first weekend at the plate, but proved she is one of the top catchers in the conference, throwing out three would-be base-stealers and picking off another to rank among the BIG EAST leaders in both categories.
MILESTONE AHEAD
With five hits in SHU's opening weekend, senior Nicole Loewenstein now has 93 hits in three-plust seasons, and should become just the 23rd player in program history to record 100 hits for her career. Last season, Kristen Kaelin and departed outfielder Nalin Bennett reached the milestone.
LET'S TURN TWO
One of the Pirates' knacks from last season was their uncanny ability to turn double plays. Their average of 0.45 turns per game topped the BIG EAST and ranked them among the nation's leaders. This season, SHU has two double plays in three games. National statistics will not be posted until Mar. 11.
KAELIN SPENDS SUMMER IN OUTBACK
Senior Kristen Kaelin competed in the 2011 Softball Australia International Challenge Series with the United States of American Athletes International (USAAI) in July and early August. The tournament consisted of games against select Australian national and junior national teams and top club teams.
SHU WELCOMES NEWCOMERS ABOARD
seton Hall has eight new faces on this year's squad. Outfielders Sam DeMasi, Sara Haefeli, Whitney Jones, and Colltey Sheldon all competed for the starting centerfielder spot. Danielle DeStaso and Casey Moses join the pitching staff. Casey's twin sister, Jordan, adds depth at first base while Allissa Kerr and Kaylyn Sanbower solidify the catcher's position.
PIRATES INK FOUR RECRUITS FOR 2013
The Pirates have signed four players to NLI's for the 2012 season. The class includes third baseman Jackie DiPietro (Horsham, Pa.), ouftielder Yasmin Harrell (Cheektowaga, NY), catcher Faith Laudano (Islip, N.Y.), and catcher Alex Rabbetts (Corona, Calif.).
