SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Adriana Perez hit two home runs and had seven RBI to lift Texas Tech to a 9-0 victory over the Seton Hall softball team in five innings to win the SHU Strike Out Cancer Tournament on Sunday. The Pirates (13-12) will return to action on Wednesday, March 21, with a double-header against St. Peter's at Ivy Hill Park.
Cara Custer was brilliant for the second straight time against SHU, allowing just two hits and striking out five to improve to 14-5.
Perez launched her first long ball of the day with a runner on and two outs in the bottom of the first to give the Red Raiders (26-7) the early advantage. She was also responsible for doubling the lead to 4-0 after crushing one out of the park in the third.
In the fourth, Perez came up with the bases loaded and sewed up the Tournament MVP honors with a bases clearing double, and Texas Tech scored twice more to enforce the eight-run rule.
Freshman Colltey Sheldon (Peoria, Ariz.) and senior Laura Canulli (Naperville, Ill.) posted the only two hits for the Pirates.
Junior Brooke Tull (Greenwood, Del.) took the decision in the circle and fell to 2-4.
