Metzger Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Jen Metzger (Pine Hill, N.J.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after helping the Seton Hall softball team win three games at the UNLV Eller Media Stadium Classic. Metzger contributed in all three victories, posting a 2-0 record and a save. She did not allow a run in 15.2 innings of work and struck out 10 batters.

In her first outing, Metzger delivered her first career complete-game shutout in a 1-0 victory over New Mexico State on Saturday. The Pirates called upon her again to get them out of a jam in the sixth inning of their game against Illinois, and Metzger delivered a perfect 1.2 innings to preserve another 1-0 win. She completed her fine weekend with another masterpiece, a complete-game, four-hit shutout over UNLV.

Metzger's scoreless streak is currently at 17.2 innings dating back to the previous tournament at UCF.

Louisville freshman shortstop/designated player Whitney Arion was selected as the BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week and Syracuse senior Jenna Caira was named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week after the fourth week of action.

The Pirates return to action this weekend for five games when they play at the UMBC Dawg Pound Classic in Baltimore, Md.
