SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall softball team lost to #9 Louisville by a 6-2 count on a rain-filled afternoon on Sunday. The Pirates (20-25, 2-12) get right back into BIG EAST play with a doubleheader at Notre Dame on Wednesday, April 25 beginning at 3:00 p.m.
Jennifer Esteban started the contest with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. With one out, an Alica Wolny sacrifice fly allowed Esteban to score and give the Cardinals (43-2, 14-2) the early edge.
SHU came right back in the bottom of the first after three straight singles loaded the bases with no outs. Senior Kristen Kaelin (Parlin, N.J.) drew a base on balls to even the score, and Meredith Henze (Elkton, Md.) continued her hot hitting with a single up the middle give the Pirates a 2-1 lead.
Louisville turned to their ace Tori Collins out of the bullpen and retired the next three batters in order to get out of the jam.
In the fifth, Whitney Arion took Danielle DeStaso (Congers, N.Y.) deep for a two-run homer to put the Cardinals back on top for good. Katie Keller put the exclamation point on the victory with a three-run shot of her own to pout Seton Hal away.
DeStaso fell to 5-10 with the defeat after lasting 5.2 innings and giving up six earned runs on six hits. Junior Brooke Tull (Greenwood, Del.) was effective once again, throwing 1.1 innings and allowing just one hit. She has not given up an earned run in her last 13.0 innings of work.
Henze is hitting .375 in her last six games with seven RBI.
