SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Seton Hall softball team dropped game one of a doubleheader to Notre Dame, 8-0, in five innings on Wednesday afternoon. The game was halted by a 3:30 rain delay.
The Irish scored in the first inning after an Amy Buntin single plated Alexa Maldonado. The Pirates committed a pair of errors in the second inning, allowing Notre Dame to break the game open with five runs in the frame.
A solo home run by Dani Miller extended the lead to 7-0 and a bases loaded walk enforced the eight-run margin as SHU failed to pull any closer after their fifth turn at bats.
Freshman Danielle DeStaso (Congers, N.Y.) picked up the only hit of the game for the Pirates. Freshman Casey Moses (Lower Burrell, Pa.) took the loss (6-8) after lasting two innings and giving up seven runs (just three earned).
