Seton Hall honored seniors Laura Canulli (Naperville, Ill.), Kristen Kaelin (Parlin, N.J.), and Nicole Loewenstein (Joppa, Md.) after the game to honor their achievements.
Starting pitcher Kirsten Verdun helped her own cause in the top of the first inning, belting a solo homer to give the Blue Demons an early 1-0 lead.
DePaul added two more runs in the sixth despite just notching one hit. A hit batter and a single by Verdun put runners on the corners with two outs, and a wild pitch plated Samantha Dodd. Freshman Danielle DeStaso (Congers, N.Y.) issued another walk, forcing another first and third situation leading to a double-steal try by the Blue Demons. The Pirates attempted a cutoff throw, but sophomore Maria DeLuca (Cedar Grove, N.J.) muffed the throw, allowing the third run to score.
DeStaso drops to 5-13 on the year after tossing a complete-game, allowing just four hits and allowing two earned runs.
The Pirates will wrap up the season next weekend with a three-game series at Villanova. The teams will meet in a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at noon.
