KK IS A-OK
Senior Kristen Kaelin recorded her 100th career RBI in game two at Princeton on Tuesday. She becomes just the fourth player in program history to achieve the milestone and joins Laura Taylor (160), Vickie Lamb (121), and Katie Pierce (116) to join the club.
PIRATES SURPASS 2011 WIN TOTAL
With its sweep of Siena, SHU recorded its 17th victory of the season, exceeding the Pirates win total for all of last season.
.007 TO THE RESCUE
For the first time this season, Seton Hall earned a walk-off victory after a clutch base-hit by (#7) Maria DeLuca against Siena on Mar. 31. The Pirates overcame a two-run deficit and tied the game in the third and eventually the game went to extra-innings where DeLuca deliverd the game-winning single.
100-HIT CLUB KEEPS GROWING
For the second straight season, the Pirates should have two players eclipse 100 career hits. Junior Brittany Hammer is up to 94 knocks in two-plus seasons. Even more impressively, the shortstop missed 19 games due to injury in 2011. Nicole Loewenstein also became just 23rd player in program history to record 100 hits for her career against UNLV on Mar. 4. Last season, Kristen Kaelin and departed outfielder Nalin Bennett reached the milestone.
DeSTASO DOES IT ALL
Freshman Danielle DeStaso contributed in all facets of the game in the Pirates sweep over Saint Peter's on Tuesday. In game one, she won her third straight decision after pitching seven innings of four-hit, one-run ball. In game two, she hit her team-leading fourth home run and got SHU out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh inning to earn her first career save.
HAMMER POUNDS PEAHENS
Junior Brittany Hammer set a new single-game record recording three doubles in game two against Saint Peter's on Wednesday. She also went 4-for-4 in the game, becoming the 12th player to tie the program-high.
KAELIN'S BIG WEEK
Senior Kristen Kaelin doubled her RBI total in the span of the week after driving in 10 runs to help the Pirates go 4-3 against Towson and the Strike Out Cancer Tournament.
FAB FROSH
The duo of freshmen Danielle DeStaso and Casey Moses have stepped up for SHU with the absence of No. 1 starter Jen Metzger to injury. Moses has racked up six victories and a 1.80 ERA in 66.0 innings, while DeStaso has fanned 68 batters in 69.2 innings of work and has won four of her last five decisions.
MEET THE METZ
Sophomore Jen Metzger contributed in all three SHU wins at the UNLV Eller Media Classic, posting a 2-0 record with a save while not giving up a run in 15.2 innings of work. For her efforts, she was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Mar. 5.
TOP DAWGS
The Pirates successfully defended their Dawg Pound Classic for the third time after going 3-1 last weekend. SHU won the tournament in 2009 and last year in 2011. The tourney was completely rained out in the 2010 season.
BACK-TO-BACK 1-0 WINS
With a pair of 1-0 wins against New Mexico State and Illinois on Saturday, the Pirates became the first squad to win by that margin in back-to-back contests in program history.
LET'S TURN TWO
For the second straight season, the Pirats have shown an uncanny knack for turning double-plays. Their average of 0.45 turns per game topped the BIG EAST and ranked them among the nation's leaders. This season, SHU is averaging 0.39 DP's and ranks 42nd in the nation.
COMEBACK KIDS
The Pirates had to come-from-behind in each of their first three victories this season. SHU's largest deficit they have overcome was a two-run deficit to St. John's in the season opener.
ACCESS DENIED
Senior Nicole Loewenstein is proving she is one of the top catchers in the conference, throwing out 14 would-be base-stealers and picking off another to rank among the BIG EAST leaders in both categories.
