BORN TO "RUN"
With her 33 runs scored, SHU's leadoff hitter Brittany Hammer has already posted the sixth highest single-season total in school history. The record is 47 set in 2006 by Katie Pierce.
HOW DO YOU SPELL RELIEF?
Junior pitcher Brooke Tull has allowed just three earned runs in her last 19.2 innings pitched. Tull followed up her complete-game shutout at Providence with three strong outings out of the bullpen against #9 Louisville, holding the Cardinals to just six hits in six innings of work.
WEEKEND IN NEW ENGLAND
SHU earned its first two BIG EAST wins of the season at Providence on Apr. 14-15 after receiving outstanding pitching performances, including a four-hit shutout by junior Brooke Tull. The Pirates outscored the Friars 11-3 in the series, highlighted by a five-RBI game by sophomore Meredith Henze in the opener.
DR. K
Freshman Danielle DeStaso already ranks 15th on the all-time strikeout list with 100 K's in her rookie campaign. With a strong weekend, she could break the freshman record of 113, set by Misty Beaver in 1998.
100-HIT CLUB KEEPS GROWING
For the second straight season, the Pirates have had two players eclipse 100 career hits. Junior Brittany Hammer accomplished the feat at Providence on Apr. 15. Even more impressive, the shortstop missed 19 games due to injury in 2011. Nicole Loewenstein also became just 23rd player in program history to record 100 hits for her career against UNLV on Mar. 4. Last season, Kristen Kaelin and departed outfielder Nalin Bennett reached the milestone.
KK IS A-OK
Senior Kristen Kaelin recorded her 100th career RBI in game two at Princeton on Tuesday. She becomes just the fourth player in program history to achieve the milestone and joins Laura Taylor (160), Vickie Lamb (121), and Katie Pierce (116) to join the club.
PIRATES SURPASS 2011 WIN TOTAL
With its sweep of Siena, SHU recorded its 17th victory of the season, exceeding the Pirates win total for all of last season.
