Seton Hall trailed Robert Morris, 3-1, heading into the bottom half of the fourth inning when the Pirates hung four runs on the board to take control of the game. Freshman Yasmin Harrell (Cheektowaga, N.Y.), senior Brittany Hammer (Manheim, Pa.) and freshman Alex Rabbetts (Corona, Calif.) all had RBI base hits for Seton Hall in the win.
The second game saw a lot of offense in the first inning, with eight of the 13 total runs coming in the opening frame. The Pirates scored five times in the top half of the first, thanks in large part to a Maria DeLuca (Cedar Grove, N.J.) three-run shot to left field.
However, Campbell came back with three in the bottom half of the inning and then went on to tie the game up in the third and pull ahead with one in the last of the eighth.
The Pirates finished their first road trip of the season with a 2-2 record.
-- Game One --
Robert Morris scored twice in the top half of the third to break a scoreless tie and grab an early lead against Seton Hall. The first four batters of the inning reached base for Robert Morris, the first two via a walk and an error, which led to junior Jen Metzger (Pine Hill, N.J.) coming in to relieve sophomore Casey Moses (Lower Burrell, Pa.) at pitcher.
Seton Hall got one back in bottom half of the frame. Hammer reached base with a one-out single to short, and then worked her way around the base paths, swiping second and then moving over to third on a wild pitch. She scored easily as Rabbetts registered an RBI base knock, and the SHU deficit was just 2-1.
Down by two once again heading into the bottom of the fourth the Pirate offense really got on track as The Hall scored what proved to be the final four runs of the game.
Sophomore Whitney Jones (Skowhegan, Maine), who initially reached base by drawing a two-out walk, was the first SHU run to cross the plate in the fourth, scoring on a Harrell single to third base. After Jones walked senior Cashel Gaffey (East Lyme, Conn.) singled into left.
Sophomore Sara Haefeli (Montclair, N.J.) was brought in to run for Gaffey and she scored off a Hammer grounder to short, a play that also saw sophomore Colltey Sheldon (Peoria, Ariz.) come all the way home from second thanks to a Robert Morris throwing error by shortstop Cassie Show, giving Seton Hall a 4-3 lead.
Harrell was able to move up to third thanks to the Show error, and she rounded out the scoring by coming home on a wild pitch.
Metzger earned the win, throwing five innings of relief where she allowed just one run on three hits with five strikeouts. Hammer went 2-for-4 and Sheldon was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
With the win Seton Hall took a 3-0 lead over Robert Morris in the all-time series, and the Pirates were facing the Colonials for the first time since a 7-2 victory on Feb. 26, 2011.
-- Game Two --
Seton Hall tallied four hits and a pair of home runs in the top of the first against Campbell. Hammer started the scoring with a solo shot to right center field and sophomore Danielle DeStaso (Congers, N.Y.) followed that up with a double down the left field line.
Rabbetts drove in DeStaso with a single to right, one of her two hits in the game, and Jones reached on Raven Lee throwing error, putting two runners on base for DeStaso, who cleared them with her first home run of the season.
DeStaso started the game at pitcher for Seton Hall and threw the first three innings, allowing five runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
Campbell scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first and pulled within one, 5-4, on a Kailey Farmer home run to left field, eventually tying the score at 5-5 on a Lee sacrifice fly in the third.
Neither team scored again until the seventh when the squads swapped runs. Seton Hall regained the advantage in the top of the frame thanks to a DeStaso home run to right center field.
Campbell still trailed and was down to its last out in the bottom half of the inning but Courtney Klinger came up with a two-out single to left field off Metzger to send the game into extras where the Camels prevailed in eight.
DeStaso finished the game going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Rabbetts was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored while Hammer hit 2-for-4, driving in one and scoring once.
Metzger relieved DeStaso at pitcher to start the fourth inning and gave up just two scores over 4.1 innings of work, giving up three hits with four strikeouts.
