Spindler Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll

NEW YORK - Seton Hall University sophomore goalkeeper Julian Spindler (Weiersbach, Germany) was named to the BIG EAST Men's Soccer Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced Monday afternoon by the league office. It is the first time in his career Spindler is receiving a weekly conference accolade.
Spindler enjoyed a fantastic opening week in the nets for Seton Hall, helping the Pirates post a 1-0-1 record in a pair of matches over the holiday weekend, earning a 1-1 tie in the season opener at the University of Rhode Island on Friday night, and a 2-0 victory in their home opener against UMass Lowell on Sunday afternoon.
In the shutout victory over the River Hawks, Spindler turned away five shots in 90 minutes, finishing just one shy of his career-high in saves, to post his first clean sheet of the season and the third of his career.
At Rhode Island on Friday night, he recorded four saves to help keep Seton Hall within striking distance for senior Kai Greene's (South Orange, N.J.) late equalizer before The Hall hung on for the road draw.
For the week, Spindler saved nine shots for a .900 save percentage and posted a 0.45 goals against average, the third best mark in the BIG EAST through the first week of the season.
Spindler and the Seton Hall men's soccer team will take this week off before hitting the road to face the Delaware Blue Hens on Wednesday, Sept. 10, in Newark, Del. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
