SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- Senior Amanda Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis.) became only the ninth player in Seton Hall history to record 1,000 career kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to Villanova, 3-0 (18-25, 8-25, 21-25), on Saturday.
Hansen led the Pirates with eight kills, which gives her 1,006 for her career.
Villanova entered the match having won six straight and was every bit as good as their 7-1 BIG EAST record would indicate. Seton Hall played well early in set one and a kill by Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) gave the Pirates a 10-6 lead. But the Wildcats went on a 12-3 run to take an 18-13 advantage and never trailed again. The Hall pulled to within four points at 22-18, but Villanova scored the last three points of the set to win, 25-18.
The Wildcats dominated set two, recording an attack percentage of .522, compared to just -.154 for Seton Hall. Leading 10-6, Villanova scored 15 of the final 17 points of the set to win, 25-8, and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Seton Hall (10-11, 4-5) played Villanova the closest in set three, but ultimately, the result was the same. With the score tied at 13, the Wildcats went on a 7-1 run to take a 20-14 lead. The Pirates rallied, and a kill by Cherise Hennigan (Corona, Calif.) cut the Villanova lead to one, 22-21. The Wildcats however, scored the last three points of the set, to win, 25-21, and complete the three-set sweep.
