SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall head coach Allison Yaeger officially announced on Wednesday the addition of seven newcomers to the volleyball team that will enroll at the University and play for the team in the fall.
Seton Hall's newcomers include Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.), Grace Forren (La Jolla, Calif.), Cherise Hennigan (Corona, Calif.), Miranda Higginbotham (Dallas, Texas), Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.), Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) and Amy Vandegriff (Saginaw, Texas).
"I am extremely excited about the 2015 class because all seven of these girls are ready to come in and make an immediate impact," Yaeger said. "We have some big shoes to fill with the loss of a very talented senior class, so bringing in these seven exceptional players will add talent and depth."
A two-time Glendale News Press Player of the Year, Coffey could vie for the starting setter position as a freshman with the pending graduation of Shelbey Manthorpe this spring. An outside hitter, Forren helped lead her school to three straight state championships. Hennigan has been a two-year team captain for Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Corona, Calif. and is a three-time All-league performer. A talented libero, Higginbotham is a two-time TAPPS All-District performer. An All-Wisconsin State Honorable Mention in 2014, Koska was named South Eastern Conference Player of the Year. A 6-foot-1 middle blocker, Thelen was named 2014 Northern Kentucky Girl's Volleyball Coaches' Association Player of the Year. A defensive specialist, Vandegriff will bolster one of the best defensive units in the BIG EAST.
"This group of ladies comes to us with a talent and eagerness that will enable us to build off last season's unprecedented success," Yaeger continued. "I am very proud of all of them and can't wait to see what the future holds for their personal successes and the future of this program."
