SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall University men's soccer team took advantage of a unique opportunity as it opened the 2015 spring season with a scrimmage against the Red Bulls II USL PRO Team at the Red Bulls training facility in Hanover on Saturday, March 21.
The Red Bulls II are one of 10 expansion teams to join the USL PRO league for 2015, with the league expanding from 14 to 24 squads.
The Pirates saw a pair of familiar faces on the opposition in recent SHU men's soccer graduates Konrad Plewa and Victor Manosalvas, who were trying out for the Red Bulls II and both were ultimately named midfielders on the official 20-man roster.
The USL PRO Red Bulls won the matchup 3-0, but the Pirates were not without strong scoring chances in the match.
"It was a good opportunity for our team to play against a strong group of players looking to earn professional contracts," said Seton Hall head coach Gerson Echeverry. "We are hoping to have a strong relationship with the Red Bulls II, which should provide an opportunity to play more of these games in the future."
Red Bulls II played their inaugural game against the Rochester Rhinos on Saturday, March 28, with both Plewa and Manosalvas starting for the squad in what was a 0-0 draw at Red Bulls Arena in Harrison.
The exhibition was the first five Spring dates for the Pirates.
Seton Hall will play at Lehigh this Friday, April 3, at 5 p.m. The Pirates will travel down to Piscataway to face Rutgers on Saturday, April 11, at 11 a.m.
A date with Iona will follow a week later on Saturday, April 18, at 3:30 p.m., and the spring finale will feature a pair of matchups at Princeton on Saturday, April 25. The Pirates will face Princeton at 12:30 p.m., and Fairleigh Dickinson at 1:45 p.m.
