
Whitney Jones Named to Honor Roll

NEW YORK - Seton Hall University senior first baseman Whitney Jones (Skowhegan, Maine) was named to the BIG EAST Softball Weekly Honor Roll Monday it was announced by the league office. Jones, who led the Pirates with a .400 batting average last week, picks up BIG EAST accolades for the first time in her career.
It has been an outstanding senior season thus for Jones, who through the first month of play leads The Hall with a .365 average, compiling 11 extra-base hits and 19 RBI. She has been shattering the career marks she had accumulated through her first three seasons, also belting four home runs, which ranks third on the team.
Two of those homers came just last week at the USF Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla. SHU went 2-3 in the tournament, but Jones swung a hot bat, going 6-for-15 with two homers, nine RBI and five runs scored.
In a 13-4 win over Bowling Green on Friday, Jones went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and four RBI overall. She cleared the yard again against Wisconsin, smacking a two-run shot out to left.
Jones had at least one base hit in four of Seton Hall's five games last week and registered a pair of multi-hit games. She slugged .800 and boasted a .400 on-base percentage.
Having started in all 19 games, Jones also leads Seton Hall with 15 runs scored and a .452 on-base percentage, ranking second with a .769 slugging percentage.
Seton Hall returns to action later this week, with a pair of midweek contests against Western Michigan on Tuesday and Wednesday. Next weekend the Pirates resume tournament play with five games at the USF Clearwater Tournament from Friday-Sunday, March 13-15.
