NEW YORK - Seton Hall senior outfielder Sara Haefeli (Montclair, N.J.) landed on the BIG EAST Softball Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season, Monday it was announced by the league office.
The Pirates played just one game last week, but Haefeli made a huge impact in their 7-6 win over Villanova on Monday afternoon, a victory which resulted in a series sweep over the Wildcats.
In the bottom of the first inning, Haefeli smashed a three-run homer over the left field wall to provide The Hall with an early 3-0 lead. She added a single in the third inning to go 2-for-3 at the plate, and also made a number of strong plays in center field, finishing with four catches.
The home run was the 10th of the year for Haefeli, which ties for the BIG EAST lead, and for sixth-place on the SHU all-time single season list.
Haefeli is enjoying a breakout senior campaign, already doubling her home run total from her first three seasons at Seton Hall, while batting .293 with a team-leading 28 RBI to go along with 21 runs scored and five doubles.
Her 20-career home runs rank sixth all-time, and she is just two shy of jumping up to fourth. Haefeli holds the SHU single-game record, belting three home runs against North Texas back on Feb. 7, and she has three multi-home run games this season, and four in her career.
Seton Hall returns to action with a BIG EAST series at Providence College on Monday-Tuesday, April 6-7. The teams will play a doubleheader on Monday at 1 p.m., with the finale to follow on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
