Jimenez Named BIG EAST Freshman Of The Week

NEW YORK -- Following a three-point outing on Saturday night, Seton Hall men's soccer forward Jonathan Jimenez (Cape Coral, Fla.) has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday (Oct. 3). It is the first career conference honor for the freshman and the first individual award for the Pirates this season.
Against Marquette in The Hall's BIG EAST home opener on Saturday night, Jimenez scored in the 6th minute to set the tone in an eventual 2-0 victory. He added an assist in the 53rd minute, sending a cross through the penalty for Francisco Alderete (Salta, Argentina) to convert for his first career goal. It was the first three-point outing of JImenez' young career.
Overall this season, the Florida native is second on the Pirates with two goals, three assists and seven points. He is the second Pirate to be honored by the BIG EAST in 2016, joining Andres Arcila (Cartagena, Colombia) who has notched a pair of weekly honor roll nods.
The Pirates are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 5 when they welcome Princeton to Owen T. Caroll Field. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. on the Pirate Sports Network.
