Final Stats (Game One) // Final Stats (Game Two)
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Playing as the away team on its home field, the Seton Hall softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Villanova on Sunday in a contest moved to South Orange due to weather. The offensive highlight of the day for The Hall came via the first career home run for freshman Ragen Reddick (Middlesex, N.J.) in game two as rookies combined to drive in five of SHU's eight runs in 10-3 and 9-5 setbacks.
The Pirates (19-21, 2-5 BIG EAST) combined to post 16 hits in the two contests but could not contain a Wildcat (18-13, 5-3 BIG EAST) offense that entered the day first in the league in both batting average and runs per game. In addition to Reddick's home run offensively Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) had an RBI in each game and Noel Lent (Yaphanic, N.Y.) and Valerie Suto (Mercerville, N.J.) each turned in three-hit games over the course of the afternoon.
Game 1 Notes - Villanova 10, Seton Hall 3
- The Wildcats scored four runs in the bottom of the first, including a three-run double, and pushed three more across in the bottom of the third to build a huge early advantage
- The Hall notched single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings
- Suto went 3-for-4 and smacked an RBI double in the fifth inning - it marked her fifth game this season with at least three hits
- Head drove in a run with an RBI double in the sixth, her fourth two-bagger of the season
- The Hall was out-hit 14-6 and each side committed one error
- Faith Laudano (Islip, N.Y.) clubbed her third double of the year and scored a pair of runs
Game 2 Notes - Villanova 9, Seton Hall 5
- After VU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second, Reddick got the Pirates on the board in the top of the third with her first career home run, a line drive to dead center field
- Head also drove in a run in the third with a sacrifice fly to even the contest at 2-2 before VU put up a five-spot in the bottom of the fourth
- The Hall battled back in the next half inning with an RBI double from Lent and a two-run double from Destini Peck (Riverside, Calif.) to cut the lead to 7-5, but that was as close as the Pirates would get
- Suto went 2-for-3 with a run and two stolen bases - she has now swiped 23 bags this season, third most in a season in program history
- The contest also marked Suto's 17th multi-hit game of the season and raised her average to .405
- Lent went 3-for-4 to mark her fourth three-hit effort and 10th multi-hit outing of the year
- In five BIG EAST games, Peck is slashing .308/.357/.615 with a double, a home run and four RBIs
