SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall softball team split a doubleheader with Creighton on Saturday afternoon to open a three-game weekend BIG EAST conference set. Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) drove in three in a 4-3 victory in game one before a 3-0 victory for the Bluejays in game two. The Pirates and Bluejay will conclude their weekend series with a rubber match scheduled for 12 p.m. on Sunday.
Game 1 Notes - Seton Hall 4, Creighton 3
- In a back-and forth affair, the Pirates battled back from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to take a 3-2 lead with a two-run single from Walkden in the bottom of the fourth
- After the Bluejays tied the contest at 3-3 in the top of the sixth, Walkden drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the frame to give The Hall a go-ahead run
- The Pirates capped the contest in thrilling fashion, with an 8-4-2 putout from Valerie Suto (Mercerville, N.J.) to Yasmin Harrell (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) to Faith Laudano (Islip, N.Y.) to gun down the potential tying run after a single
- Madison Strunk (Adkins, Texas) went the distance in the circle with 7.0 strong innings, allowing three runs (two earned) off 10 hits with a walk and five strikeouts
- Harrell turned in a three-hit effort playing in her first contest in two weeks - she now has 199 career hits, second in Seton Hall history
- Suto went 3-for-3 with a stolen base, two runs scored and an RBI
- Walkden's three RBIs push her total a team-high 29 on the year - she now has 80 career driven in midway through her sophomore season, already placing 11th in program history
- The Pirates went 7-for-15 with runners on base, 4-for-11 with runners in scoring positon and had batters reach 4-of-7 times to lead off innings
Game 2 Notes - Creighton 3, Seton Hall 0
- The Bluejays got a no-hitter from Micaela Whitney, who struck out 11 in 7.0 innings
- Creighton scored a run in the third and two in the fourth which was all it needed
- Alex Rabbetts (Corona, Calif.) was hit by a pitch and Valerie Suto (Mercerville, N.J.) reached on an error to mark The Hall's two lone baserunners
- Brianna Wallace (Forth Worth Texas) pinch-ran for Rabbetts in the second inning and notched her fourth stolen base of the year
- The Hall is now 5-3 all-time against Creighton
