Final Stats (Game One) // Final Stats (Game Two)
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall softball team walked off not once but twice to sweep a BIG EAST doubleheader against Providence on Sunday afternoon at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field. The Hall (23-24, 6-7 BIG EAST) came up with 4-3 and 6-5 victories over the Friars (16-25, 2-11 BIG EAST) to win its second-straight conference series.
In game one of the day, the Pirates fell behind 3-0 before rallying for two runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more in a decisive seventh inning. Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) launched a solo home run to get the scoring started in the seventh before Valerie Suto (Mercerville, N.J.) drove home the winning run with a sacrifice fly.
In game two, the Pirates again rallied from an early 3-0 hole, taking a 4-3 lead on a two-run home run from Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) in the fifth inning. After PC re-took the lead at 5-4 in the seventh inning, Walkden rocked an RBI triple to right in the bottom of the frame before scoring the winning run on an error.
Walkden combined to go 4-for-6 with three runs and three RBIs over the course of the doubleheader, completing a cycle in the span of the two games. Noel Lent (Yaphanic, N.Y.) had a combined three RBIs while Yasmin Harrell (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) had three hits and three runs scored over the two outings. Head picked up the win in both contests, firing a complete game in game one before retiring the lone batter she faced in the seventh inning of game two.
