Pair of Pirates Nab BIG EAST Weekly Honors

NEW YORK – After helping the Seton Hall men's soccer team to a top-25 victory on Saturday, seniors Andres Arcila (Cartagena, Colombia) and Lukas Pangonis (Kaunas, Lithuania) were honored by the BIG EAST on Monday afternoon (Oct. 2). Pangonis picked up BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for his role in The Hall's 2-0 shutout win over No. 25 Creighton, while Arcila nabbed an honor roll spot after his game-winning goal in the match.
The weekly honor for Pangonis is the first of the senior's career, while Arcila picks up a league honor for the second time this season. The victory for the Pirates was their first over a ranked foe since Oct. 18, 2014 and vaulted The Hall right back into the thick of the BIG EAST postseason picture.
In The Hall's victory on Saturday, Pangonis played all 90 minutes anchoring a defensive unit that recorded its second shutout of the season and first in BIG EAST play. The Hall held a potent Creighton offense to nine total shots and only three on goal, the lowest output for the Bluejays in conference play. Overall this season Pangonis has started all 11 matches at center back and logged a team-high 1,000 minutes.
Arcila's weekly honor follows his game-winning goal against CU, coming via a penalty kick in the ninth minute. The goal was the senior's sixth of the year, ranking him second in the BIG EAST in goals scored. It was also his fourth career penalty kick conversion in as many attempts.
The Pirates are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 7 for a crucial home match with DePaul. The Hall currently sits one point behind fifth-place DePaul in the league table, with the top six teams in the BIG EAST qualifying for the conference tournament. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. on the Pirate Sports Network.
