East Meadow, N.Y. – Freshman Clara Capone (West Hartford, Conn.) broke a 14-year old school record in the 50-yard freestyle and the 200 free relay squad took down another record as the Seton Hall women's swimming & diving team completed the second day of competition at the 2017 BIG EAST Championships on Thursday at the Nassau Aquatics Center.
Capone finished the 50 free in 23.57, breaking the school record of 23.73 set by Jessica Socha in 2003.
The foursome of Capone, senior Tessa Lindner (Sun Prairie, Wisc.), freshman Jordan Decker (Mason, Ohio) and sophomore Courtney McCardle (Hurley, N.Y.) shaved over a second off the previous school record in the 200 free relay after completing the race in 1:34.13.
Competing in the first BIG EAST Championships of her collegiate career, freshman Jillian Calocino (Maywood, N.J.) picked up points for the Pirates in the 500 free, placing sixth after touching the wall in 4:57.22.
Seton Hall is currently in fourth place with 141 points, ahead of Providence (123), and behind Xavier (186).
Looking ahead, the Pirates hit the pool Friday morning at 10 a.m. for preliminary races before competing in the finals at 6 p.m. on Day 3 of the BIG EAST Championships at Nassau Aquatics Center.
