Pirates Sweep Weekly BIG EAST Awards

NEW YORK – For the second time this season, the Seton Hall softball team swept the BIG EAST weekly awards, the league announced on Monday (March 20). Sophomores Destini Peck (Riverside, Calif.) and Madison Strunk (Adkins, Texas) were named Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, while Noel Lent (Yaphank, N.Y.) earned a spot on the weekly honor roll following a 4-0 week for The Hall.
Peck becomes the third Pirate this season to win Player of the Week, picking up the first conference honor of her career. In a perfect weekend for the Pirates she batted .600 (6-for-10) and added three doubles along with seven RBIs. The catcher also scored twice and drew threw walks, totaling a .600/.692/.900 slash line. Overall this season Peck is batting .410, good for fourth-best in the BIG EAST.
The Pitcher of the Week nod for Strunk is her first this season and the second of the sophomore's career. She tossed a 5.0 inning complete game shutout against Hartford on March 19, not walking a batter and striking out three. The two-hit effort was Strunk's second career shutout.
Also a key part of a strong offensive weekend for The Hall, Lent went 5-for-10 in four games and added five RBIs along with a pair of runs scored and two stolen bases. She recorded mutli-hit efforts against Brown on March 17 and Saint Peter's on March 18, driving in a pair of runs in each contest.
The Pirates are back in action this weekend, hosting Villanova or a three-game set to open BIG EAST play. The series begins on Saturday with a doubleheader kicking off at 12 p.m.
