Pirates Open 2017-18 on Day 1 at Army Invitational

West Point, N.Y. – The Seton Hall women's tennis team opened its 2017-18 campaign on Friday with the opening round of play at the Army Invitational.
In singles play, junior Anicka Fajnorova (Bratislava, Slovakia) earned a first round bye, while junior Thandy Kangwa (Ft. Myers, Fla.) picked up a 7-6(3), 6-1 victory in the "B" slot. Sophomore Melody Taal (Ede, Netherlands) and senior Katie Kim (Honolulu, Hawaii) registered wins in their respective flights.
Two pairs of Pirates advanced to the third round of doubles competition. Sophomore Michal Matson (St. Albans, New Zealand) and Kangwa cruised to 6-2 and 6-1 victories, and sophomore Anniek Jansen (Naarden, Netherlands) and Fajnorova used 6-4 and 7-5 wins to move on.
