Pirates Prevail With Three Singles Titles at Army

West Point, N.Y. – Junior Anicka Fajnorova (Bratislava, Slovakia), sophomore Melody Taal (Ede, Netherlands) and junior Kaite Kim (Honolulu, Hawaii) each won a singles championship as the Seton Hall women's tennis team completed play at the Army Invitational on Sunday.
Fajnorova defeated the No. 1 Army West Point player in the semifinal, 6-2, 7-5, then won the "A" singles flight after Syracuse withdrew due to injury in the final.
Taal put on a gritty display and won an incredibly tight, 7-6(6), 7-6(4) victory over Quinnipiac's Lohphaisan in the semifinal before grinding out a 7-6, 6-7(1), 10-8 victory over Syracuse's Mesh in the "C" singles championship.
In the "D" singles bracket, Kim cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win in the semifinal over Lehigh's Meighan, and earned the title with a 4-6, 6-4, 12-10 victory against Mitchell of Syracuse in the final.
Sophomore Anniek Jansen (Naarden, Netherlands) furthermore picked up a victory in the "D" singles consolation bracket with an 8-5 win over Friedman of Lehigh.
Up next, the Pirates will compete at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md. Oct. 6-8.
