NEW YORK – Seton Hall men's soccer standouts David Arvidsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) and CJ Tibbling (Järna, Sweden) have been named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, the league announced on Friday (Nov. 2) afternoon. In addition, Tibbling was a unanimous selection to the BIG EAST All-Freshman team after a sterling rookie season in South Orange.
The selections for the duo mark the first time that multiple Pirates have received All-Conference honors in the same season since the 2009 campaign. In addition, Tibbling is the first Pirate to earn All-Freshman and All-Conference honors in the same season since Gregory Strohman in 1998.
The Second Team certificate for Arvidsson comes after the graduate defender anchored the Seton Hall defense from the center back position, not leaving the pitch once over 849 minutes of conference action. The captain helped the Pirates hold seven of nine league opponents to one goal or less and added three shots, two on goal, during set-piece attempts.
Tibbling was one of the brightest young stars in the BIG EAST during his first year in South Orange, totaling four goals in nine league games. The 6'0 Swede finished tied for third in the league in goals during conference play and tied SJU's Skage Simonsen for most among league freshman. Tibbling also ranked second in the conference with a total of 36 shots across conference action.
The Pirates finished 6-7-2 in 2018 under first-year head coach Andreas Lindberg, improving their winning percentage from .382 in 2017 to .467 this season.
