SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – After a 3-1 start to the 2018 campaign, a pair of Seton Hall softball players have received BIG EAST accolades, the league announced on Monday (Feb. 12). Sophomore outfielder Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while classmate and pitcher Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) nabbed a spot on the weekly honor roll.
Arteaga hit safely in all four games for The Hall at the UTSA Softball Classic and batted .636 with two home runs and six RBIs. The sophomore also scored a pair of runs and stole two bases, recording a slash line of .636/.692/1.273. She smacked a two-run home run in the season opener against Abilene Christian on Feb. 9, proving to be all The Hall's offense in a 2-0 victory. Arteaga capped the weekend with another big day, going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI against host UTSA in a 3-1 victory on Feb. 10.
For Camp, the honor roll nod comes after going 2-0 in the circle with a pair of dominant complete game efforts. Against ACU in the season opener she turned in the best start of her career, firing a four-hit shutout with a career-high 10 strikeouts and no walks. She got the ball again at UTSA in the finale, allowing a run in 7.0 innings and striking out six against one walk.
The Hall looks to build on its strong start last weekend when it returns to Texas to take part in the Bearkat Classic at Sam Houston State. The Hall will play four games in two days against Northern Colorado, SHSU, Wichita State and No. 4 Washington.
