Kevin McGlynn Named Women’s Tennis Head Coach

South Orange, N.J. - Seton Hall Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Lyons has announced Kevin McGlynn as the new head women's tennis coach, a position he previously held with the Pirates from 1991-96. McGlynn takes over for Riza Zalameda, who resigned as head coach for personal reasons.
"We are excited that Kevin is returning to Seton Hall to lead our women's tennis program," Lyons said. "He had terrific success here in his first tenure as the program's head coach, and with his expertise and his past experience, we know that our student-athletes will be ready to compete."
McGlynn served as the Pirates head coach from 1991-96, compiling a 70-34 dual match record, which included the program's only undefeated season in 1992-93, when Seton Hall went 17-0. McGlynn was at the helm when the Pirates earned their only NCAA Tournament bid in 1996 and presided over the program's best BIG EAST Championship finish, runner-up in 1994.
For 36 years, McGlynn served as the director of tennis and then as the general manager of the Bradford Bath and Tennis Club in Cedar Grove, N.J.
"I could not be more thrilled to be back at Seton Hall," said McGlynn. "I first met Pat Lyons at the Hall of Fame event in 2016 when one of my former student-athletes, Kristen Downing, was being inducted, and I was excited to hear from him about the direction of this athletics department. This opportunity came at the perfect time for me professionally, having recently resigned from Bradford after a successful 36-year association. I am excited about this opportunity and look forward to fulfilling the responsibilities as head coach of the Seton Hall women's tennis program."
McGlynn enjoyed a successful collegiate playing career at Upsala College in nearby East Orange, N.J. He compiled a 103-27 record (65-16 in singles and 48-11 in doubles) and earned a No. 5 ranking in the NCAA Mid-States Region.
Seton Hall, which is coming off an appearance in the BIG EAST Championship semifinals last season, is 3-6 in dual matches so far in 2018 and will return to action on Saturday March 24 vs. LIU-Brooklyn and Friday, March 30 vs. Hofstra. Then the Pirates will close the regular season with six consecutive matches against BIG EAST foes and will then compete for the conference tournament championship April 25-29 in Columbia, S.C.
