NEW YORK – After helping the Seton Hall softball team to a 4-1 weekend at the Madeira Beach Invitational, freshman outfielder Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) and junior pitcher Madison Strunk (Adkins, Texas) picked up weekly accolades from the BIG EAST. Barracato was named BIG EAST Player of the Week for the first time in her career, while Strunk landed on the conference's weekly honor roll.
Barracato started her spring break trip with a bang, hitting safely in all five of The Hall's contest and batting .500 (8-for-16) in five games. The freshman added two runs scored, a walk and two stolen bases while notching three doubles. In a 2-0 win over Buffalo on Sunday, she led the game off with a double and came around to score what would serve as the game-winning run.
Strunk notched a decision in three of The Hall's four wins in Madeira Beach, going 3-0 with a 0.41 ERA over the course of the tournament. She tossed a complete game six-hitter against LIU Brooklyn on March 2 to help The Hall to a 3-1 victory. Against Central Arkansas on March 3 Strunk fired 3.0 innings of nearly perfect relief, grabbing the win after allowing only one baserunner via a single. Her best performance came in the finale against Buffalo, as Strunk spun a complete game shutout and allowed four hits while not walking a batter in the 2-0 triumph.
The Pirates hit the midway point of their 11-game spring break trip on Wednesday, taking on USF in Tampa at 6:30 p.m.
