South Orange, N.J. – Sophomore Cassy Harrigan (Beaverton, Ore.) scored on a beautiful strike early in the second half, but UMass Lowell tallied a late equalizer as the Seton Hall women's soccer team fought to a 1-1 draw at Owen T. Carroll Field on Thursday night.
Turning Point
The Pirates (2-3-2) controlled possession throughout the majority of the opening frame and had several quality looks. However, Seton Hall didn't break through until early in the second half, when freshman Lizzy Kirk (Yardley, Pa.) placed a perfect through ball to the foot of Harrigan, who lofted a curving strike from left to right over the opposing keepers reach to put the Pirates ahead in the 54th minute.
Over the next 30 minutes, the teams traded possession in the midfield as the Pirates displayed their outstanding defensive ability. The best chance of the night for the River Hawks (2-4-3), however, came in the 85th minute when a bouncing ball got through the midfield and UMass Lowell raced ahead. The River Hawks chipped a long pass for the equalizer over the head of senior goalkeeper Anna MacLean (Thunder Bay, Ontario), who was rushing ahead to attempt to break up the chance.
