Andersen and Tibbling Net BIG EAST Weekly Honors

NEW YORK – After leading the Seton Hall men's soccer team to a pair of wins last week, senior Nico Andersen (Odense, Denmark) and freshman CJ Tibbling (Järna, Sweden) have both picked up BIG EAST weekly accolades. The conference announced Andersen as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, while Tibbling earned his second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week certificate this season.
Andersen played a huge role on both ends of the pitch for the Pirates in wins over Sacred Heart and Marquette last week. At Sacred Heart on Wednesday, the senior fullback had a three-point day, scoring an equalizing goal in the first half and then assisting on the eventual game-winner early in the second frame. In a home shutout of Marquette on Saturday, he played the full 90 minutes and was part of a stifling defensive effort that limited MU to only two shots on goal.
The Freshman of the Week nod for Tibbling comes after the rookie forward scored both goals during a 2-0 win over Marquette. It took the Swede only 2:41 of game action to connect on his first goal Saturday night, launching a rocket from outside the 18 that was partially blocked but still arced over the Marquette keeper. The early strike would stand as the game-winner, with Tibbling adding an insurance strike early in the second half after a huge run through several defenders. Overall on the week Tibbling totaled 10 shots and moved into second in the conference with four goals this season.
The Pirates are back in action on Tuesday night when they head to the Bronx for a showdown at No. 25 Fordham. Kick-off from Jack Coffey Field is set for 7 p.m.
