
Thelen Leads Again, But Pirates Fall at Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) recorded a match-high 14 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at Georgetown, 3-0 (21-25, 16-25, 18-25), on Wednesday.
Thelen was efficient too, notching a .310 attack percentage, but she as the only Pirate to record more than five kills in the match.
SET 1:
The first set was a close affair with neither team taking control of the set until late. Trailing, 16-14, the Pirates scored three straight points, and blocks by Thelen and Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) gave them their first lead since they led, 2-1. Georgetown however, responded with four straight points to retake the lead, 20-17, and never trailed again. The Hoyas went on to win the set, 25-21.
SET 2:
A kill by Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) gave the Pirates the first point of the second set, but it would be their last lead. Georgetown scored six of the next seven points, and never looked back. The Hoya advantage grew to as many as 10 points on two occasions in route to a 25-16 set two win. Georgetown had a match-high .600 attack percentage in the second frame alone.
SET 3:
In set three, a service error gave The Hall an 11-10 advantage but Georgetown answered with a 9-1 run to take a commanding 19-12 lead. On three occasions the Pirates cut the Hoya lead to six, but alas couldn't draw closer. Georgetown went on to win set three, 25-18, and the match, 3-0.
Inside the Numbers:
The Pirates will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 29 when they make the short trip to Queens, N.Y. for a contest with St. John's. Match time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

- Sophomore Elizabeth Sottung (Westfield, N.J.) led the Pirates in digs for a second straight match. She finished with 11.
- Gasser had four kills, no attack errors and a team-best five blocks.
- Seton Hall recorded a .170 attack percentage for the match, while Georgetown attacked at .419.
- The Hall had 31 team kills, while the Hoyas had 48.
- The Pirates totaled 31 team digs, while Georgetown had 38.
- Seton Hall falls to 5-12 overall and 0-4 in the BIG EAST, while Georgetown improves to 10-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
- The Pirates are now 17-23 all-time against Georgetown.
- With 14 kills tonight, Thelen moved past former Pirate Jenna Meyers into sixth place on the Seton Hall career kills list. She now has 1,168. Furthermore, with 29 attacks tonight, she moved past Jenna Meyers into fifth place on the career list.
- The Pirates fall to 3-6 in three-set matches.
