CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Seton Hall softball team (7-8) kicked off its Spring Break trip at the USF Series on Friday, dropping a pair of games to UCF (14-7) and No. 17 Indiana (18-2). The contests were the first of nine games on the docket over the next 10 days in Clearwater.

Game 1 – UCF 9, Seton Hall 0 (Five Innings)

How it Happened

The Knights pushed across three runs in the top of the first then added two more in the second to build an early 5-0 lead
The squads traded zeroes in the third, but in the top of the fourth UCF tacked on four more to put the run-rule into effect

Notes and Numbers

UCF held a 10-2 edge in hits on the day
Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) and Marisa Plan (San Clemente, Calif.) both singled and drew a walk for the Pirates
Hailey Arteaga and Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) also drew walks for the Pirates
The setback dropped The Hall to 0-3 all-time against Central Florida

Game 2 – No. 17 Indiana 6, Seton Hall 2

How it Happened

The Hoosiers took an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first
Neither squad would score again until the bottom of the fourth, when IU went ahead 4-0 by way of a sacrifice fly
The Pirates cut into the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, loading the bases before an RBI single from Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) and a run-scoring walk drawn by Pandolfo
Indiana would push its lead back to four with a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth before setting The Hall down in order in the top of the seventh

Notes and Numbers

Indiana finished the day with a 9-4 edge in hits
Arteaga, Barracato and Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) all added base knocks for the Pirates
Barracato finished the game 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored
The base hit for Arteaga kept her season average above .400 at .419 through 15 games
The meeting was the second-ever between SHU and Indiana with the series now level at 1-1

What's Next
The Pirates are back at it in Clearwater on Saturday, taking on a pair of New England foes. First up is UMass at 3:30 p.m. before a 6 p.m. showdown with Central Connecticut.
