Seton Hall softball coach Paige Smith has announced the addition of Ketarah DeVries as The Hall's new assistant and pitching coach. DeVries arrives to Seton Hall after two years as an assistant coach with Bucknell University.
"Early the interview process it was clear that Ket would be a great fit for our program," Smith said. "She is very competitive. She wants to win and has shown the ability to get at the heart of her pitchers to find what motivates them. Her numbers speak for themselves, as clearly she can scout talent and call a good game," the Pirate head coach added.
In her two seasons with the Bison, DeVries was responsible for the pitching staff and defense, working extensively with the pitchers and catchers during games by calling pitches. In her first year with the Bison in 2018, hurler Raeanne Geffert pitched to a 2.07 ERA in 192.1 innings and was a First Team All-Conference pick. Last season Bucknell slimmed its team ERA under 3.00 to the tune of a 2.71 mark and Geffert was again an All-League selection.
Before taking on her role at Bucknell, DeVries was the assistant and interim head coach for Highland Community college during the 2017 season. She has also held coaching roles on high school and travel ball teams.
"We hold the athlete experience above all and have found that happy, healthy athletes lead to successful seasons. Ket aligns with that core principle. She will bring her philosophy of owning who you are as a pitcher and fulfilling your role to the team." Smith continued.
As a player, DeVries was a premier pitcher for St. Francis University. She was a First Team All-Conference pitcher in 2016 and 2017, also paving the way for the program's first NEC championship as a team captain in 2017. In 2016, DeVries graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, finishing her academic career with a 3.78 GPA. She completed graduate school a year later with a Master's in Business Administration.
