SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall softball team dropped its home opener to Rutgers on Tuesday, 5-4.

The Pirates led for the first four innings before the Scarlet Knights put up a four-spot in the fifth innings.

How it Happened

The Pirates jumped on the scoreboard early with Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) crushing a two-run homer to left.
The Hall would add to their lead in the home-half of the second with a Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) single to make things 3-0.
The Scarlet Knights would get a run back in the third to cut the Pirate lead to two.
Seton Hall responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the third on a Jaden Tate (Las Vegas, Nev.) single.
Rutgers would go on to score four runs in the top of the fifth to take the game 5-4.

Notes and Numbers

Allender's home run was her team-leading ninth on the season, just one shy of her 10 long balls from a season ago.
The Pirates were narrowly outhit 8-7, indicative of the tight game on the scoreboard.
Tate and Arteaga each provided two-hit days out of the six and seven spots in the order.
Mo Sobel (Newbury Parks, Calif.) came on in relief for 2.2 scoreless innings.
With her RBI in the second, Arteaga now moves into a tie in sixth place all-time with 109 career RBIs in a Pirate uniform.
